Al-fatihah to a friend of mine, Wan Hazlan or better known as Lang, the bassist for the ska-reggae-dub band, Kuchalana.
He was abducted after work in KLCC on Tuesday night by three men and brought to Ulu Yam and got beaten up.
He was pronounced dead of severe brain damage, blood clogs, broken skull, spine and lung at 1:30pm yesterday at HKL.
The first time I met Lang was in 2005, when we worked with the UNHCR doing research on the Rohingya refugees in Malaysia.
He was very friendly and hardworking as we scouted through the Klang Valley looking for and interviewing the refugees.
He was one of those rare humble, down-to-earth, helpful, easy going and laid back types. Not to mention funny and smart too.
On one occasion, he chased down a guy in downtown KL after the guy mugged an innocent lady. He managed to get back her handbag. Now, how often do we see such brave act in our ever so selfish, mind-your-own-business society today?
I think the last time I saw him was at a show in Annexe, Central Market earlier this year. He was sporting a shorter hair and told me that his wife had given birth to a beautiful baby girl.
I still can’t believe this is happening. Who would’ve done such brutality to a peaceful, non-violent man?
I just hope the culprits who are behind this will brought to justice very soon.
My condolences goes out to his family and friends.
