Although we didn’t have much to do at the office today as we finished the job earlier than the client expected(yea, we cool like that!), everybody seemed to be keeping themselves busy doing something; updating blogs, tagging people, watching DVDs, online gaming, eating, gossiping and the occasional sleeping.
I on the other hand, have my own stuff to do; designing a wedding card for a friend, updating my Threadless T-shirt design(I’ll post it here soon for you guys to vote!), and editing a batch of scanned photos I took recently with my Canon EOS 888. I basically didn’t do much on the photos except for leveling the color, contrast and brightness, giving them a lomo look and a cross-processed effect.
I was bored with the effects and wanted something new, then I remember about this effect Joe Hahn showed me the other day on some of his photos called HDR or High Dynamic Range. It’s very popular lately especially among digital photographers for it’s surreal, illustration-like effect. From Wikipedia;
…high dynamic range imaging (HDRI) is a set of techniques that allows a greater dynamic range of exposures (the range of values between light and dark areas) than normal digital imaging techniques. The intention of HDRI is to accurately represent the wide range of intensity levels found in real scenes ranging from direct sunlight to shadows.
So I Googled for online tutorials and got myself Photomatix, an HDR generator software, and after many trials and errors, I managed to come up with a couple of my own HDR photos. Of course, they’re not as good as the original ones, but I think for a newbie, it looks OK lah! I dunno, whaddaya think? See it here.
Here’s a good compilation of HDR how-to tutorials:

And check out Dave Hill’s work(although some said that his photos are not HDR, but used his own technique and properly named it “The Dave Hill Effect”). Feast yer eyezzz!
