A Moment To Reflect

Karipap Daging’s Actorlympics Idol Review (Pt. 2/2)

‘Censorship Game’ is played by two actors acting out a scene from any given movie, again suggested by the audience, while the rest of the players press the buzzer to “censor” whenever they feel it’s an inappropriate act by the actor or actress and replace them. Things like “not using the national language(Bahasa)” in an English movie, “man should walk in front(lead), women should walk behind(follow)” in a love story, “real women should act instead of look-a-likes(transvestites)”, and other mindless “mistakes” came out! When Afdlin and Ida was playing, Harith hit the buzzer and said, “Actors with a sex video are banned!”, and if you heard of Ida’s supposedly “explicit voyeurism” circulating recently, you would expect she was out, but Harith replaced Afdlin instead!

Other games played were ‘Three Liners’ when two actors act out a scene by saying only 3 words written in a piece of paper wrote by the audience prior to the show. ‘Sit, Stand, Bend’ where three actors has to each either sit, stand or bend acting out a scene, and if they’re not in the positions, the crowd boos them! There were a few more games that I can’t recall. Maybe I was laughing frantically too hard to remember them? I hope I get the games described above and their names right. Whoever went to the show, correct me if I’m wrong ya?

What makes the whole thing super-hilarious is when unexpected things turned out from the impromptu acts of the multi-talented players what with the twisted and crazy suggestions from the crowd. If I could sum up top three things that the audience suggested were; Angkasawan, some Indian politician, and ‘big and hard’. They really have some sort of “fetish” to these current events and it turned out really funny and superbly executed by the actors. Just remember to have an open mind whenever you manage to catch the show!

Two things come to mind after watching Actorlympics; 1. crucial audience participation and 2. the deteriorating state of freedom of expression, which I think both are lack in the local comedy industry. The two way communication type of play really makes us the audience felt appreciated when we’re involve in the whole process, whether voluntary or not, that our thoughts(social, political, religion) are taken into consideration, which most of the time are agreed and used! Believe it or not, It turned out like some sorta ’social mindset therapy’ through an outlet of gut-crunching laugh fest after a whole tiring week of work. Yeay! :)
