Nothing beats a beautiful weekend with a picnic with your loved ones. Be it with your family, friends or your lover. Today me and Nadia had a picnic at Taman Tasik Perdana(Lake Gardens) in KL. The last time we had a picnic here was earlier this year with her cousins, and like last time, we had a lovely one. Well it’s always a lovely time whenever we’re together!
We had yours truly special double hamburger with sausages(with a sprinkle of cinnamon), mixed veggies, salad and French Toast(with maple syrup and butter) with apple and some chocolates with blackcurrent juice to wash the food off. Yes, in my previous post I did say I don’t cook, but I do sometimes. But only the simple-fast food-oily types. And we’re trying to watch our diet hahaha!
The weather was just nice for the picnic, not too sunny and windy. We played frisbie after our meal and Nadia was so cute trying hard to throw it perfectly to me, and I had to run down the hill to get it! It turns out to be a good exercise for us to burn the wholesome meal of carb we had earlier. We packed up our things when the sky starts to darken and drove straight into the city to catch Horse The Band at the MCPA hall.
Horse The Band is a Nintendocore band from Los Angeles and are currently on their ‘Earth Tour’ to 45 countries supporting their latest release, A Natural Death. Nintendocore is basically metal music blended with 8-bit sound sample. Resulting a brilliant mix of down tuned hard music with lo-fi video game sound effects creating an unexpected unique harmony! Pure genius! I started listening to HTB last year when a colleague passed me some of their songs. The music straight away stuck in me and I knew this was a band to look out for!
We got there around 2pm and there were 10 hardcore/post hardcore opening bands, among them were Dashown(hardcore), Love Me Butch(post hardcore), Have A Nice Death(metal with a turntable!) and Restraint(metallic hardcore). They all delivered a great performance jumping and banging and throwing guitars while the crowds sang-along and rocking the floor with their signature hardcore dance and stage diving warming up the mosh pit for HTB. Definitely one of the most interesting mosh pit I’ve seen!
At 9pm, after being drenched in sweats because of the broken aircond, HTB came on stage, in their underwear! It was hot as hell alright, and 500 people(I think) were coming in pushing and packing the theater hall. They started off playing Birdo, then proceeded with some new songs of the new album, along with crowd favorite Bunnies. It was good to finally see them live and up close, although their sweaty half naked body wasn’t our reason to see them in the first place(and still isn’t)!
Nathan aka The General really knows how to growl, David had some slick metal riffs, Christopher’s double pedal skill was flawless, and Dash was in his own world blasting the bass. Then came Eric, who was the crowd favorite, looked as if on steroid hitting the keyboard. But looked as if stoned high when talking to the crowd making some funny remarks about the shitty sound system. Although he’s the nerd of the band(and I swear to God he looked exactly like Jon Heder in Napoleon Dynamite, minus the glasses) but I think, he’s the reason that made this band so unique with the cool Nintendo sound effect from his synthesizer keyboard. Them geeks are cool!
Kudos for HTB for being a sport to play throughout the hot and sweaty set and the crowd for staying and rocking the night! Big up to Theatrical Records, Dyslexia Records, Cease Fire Records and friends for bringing them down here. It was indeed a show to behold and for those who missed it, it’s your loss! Hopefully they will come back and rock the hell out of us again soon and I’ve a semi-deaf left ear to prove it(I was standing right beside the front speaker)! They ended the night with my personal favorite, Cutsman. Check out the video here.
